The STANDARD 100 by OEKO-TEX® is a worldwide common, independent auditing and certification system for raw, semi-finished and finished textile products at all processing levels, as well as all used accessories. The certificate first appeared in 1992 and is one of the most represented of its kind.
The Business Social Compliance Initiative (BSCI) was founded in 2003 by the Forgein Trade Association (FTA) and pursues the goal to improve working conditions throughout the international supply chain. The central focus of the initiative is their code of conduct, which defines the values and principles of ethical sourcing in todays global supply chain.
The Accord on Fire and Building Safety in Bangladesh is a legally binding agreement between western brands, buyers and national and international unions. The goal is to implement secure and longlasting fire safety and structual standards in the RMG sector. Regular inspections by speciale trained auditors and publicly displayed inspection reports are the core of this agreement. All up-to-date results are visible on the Accord webpage.
Colombus has been one of the first members who freely joined this agreement.
The Better Work programm is a unique cooperation between the International Labour Organization (ILO) and the International Finance Corporation (IFC). The aim is to support factories on the longrun while implementing ILO standards and national laws. The specific implementation, improvement and training techniques on working standards do not only help factories to comply with global customer standards, improving working conditions, but as well as improving the companies profability in terms of productivity and quality.
Only textile products that contain a minimum of 70% organic fibres can become GOTS certified. All chemical inputs such as dyestuffs and auxiliaries used must meet certain environmental and toxicological criteria. The choice of accessories is limited in accordance with ecological aspects as well. A functional waste water treatment plant is mandatory for any wet-processing unit involved and all processors must comply with social criteria. The key criteria of GOTS, its quality assurance system and the principles of the review and revision procedure are summarised in this section.
